The financial requirements for the visa is much higher than that of the marriage visa.
The most common foreign visas applied for in Thailand tends to be the British Spouse visa for Thai as well as the British Fiancée visa. After the US visa the Australian Fiancée visa and Australian Spouse visa is the most applied for visa in Bangkok. Australia has become very strict over the past 5 years because of visa abuse and you would be best served contacting a lawyer in Bangkok if you are going to apply for an Australian visa. Note that there are also Australian family visa which are also common when your Thai wife has settled in Australia.
