Thai Marriage Visa

The most common 12 months visa in Thailand is a marriage visa or Thai “O” visa. This visa is for those who are married to a Thai national. The process starts at a Thai Embassy with a 90 day visa. Once you enter Thailand you have 90 days in which to extend this visa for 12 months. Speak to a lawyer about this as you can also apply for a Guardian Visa in Thailand if your minor child is at school in Thailand and you child is not a Thai national.

Thai Retirement Visa

If you are older than 50 then the retirement visa is another option. There are a number of retirement locations in Thailand that expats like. Some retire in Phuket while other prefer to retire in Pattaya. These are all options when in Thailand. The retirement visa allows you to stay in Thailand for 12 months however it does not allow you to work while in Thailand. You will need a Thai work permit if you wish to work in Thailand. The financial requirements for the visa is much higher than that of the marriage visa.

The most common foreign visas applied for in Thailand tends to be the British Spouse visa for Thai as well as the British Fiancée visa. Each has its own requirements and you will need to speak to an immigration lawyer in Thailand for more information and assistance. There are loads of documents which need to be collected for this visa as well a medical reports which will need to be completed. Also much like the other visas your Thai wife or fiancée will need to have a criminal record check done in Thailand.

US Visa for Thai

After the British visa the US fiancée visa is the next most common foreign visa applied for in Thailand. Note that obtaining a US tourist visa in Bangkok is very difficult as most applications are rejected due to visa abuse. If you fiancée has been deported before from the US then you will need to speak to an attorney in Thailand for assistance as well as when you application has been rejected. The rejected applications can be appealed however legal assistance will be needed.

Australian Visa for Thai

After the US visa the Australian Fiancée visa and Australian Spouse visa is the most applied for visa in Bangkok. Australia has become very strict over the past 5 years because of visa abuse and you would be best served contacting a lawyer in Bangkok if you are going to apply for an Australian visa. Note that there are also Australian family visa which are also common when your Thai wife has settled in Australia.
